Safety & trust

Handing something to a stranger only works if they aren't one

Everyone on HaulMate passes the same checks before they can request or carry anything. No exceptions, no shortcuts.

Verification

Two steps, about a minute

1. A verification selfie

A clear, well-lit photo with no sunglasses or hats. It helps people recognise each other at handover — and it's reviewed by our team, not a machine.

2. A €0.01 bank check

A one-cent payment from your own Dutch bank account confirms your legal name as your bank knows it. It's the cheapest, strongest identity signal there is.

Until both are approved, your account can't post requests or carry items. You'll see a reminder banner with a link to finish it.

Privacy

What other people can and can't see

Public

Your first name, city, story, rating, completed hauls and trust level.

Approximate only

If you share your location, others see a soft circle around your neighbourhood — never a pin on your door.

Never shared

Your email, phone, date of birth, ID document and selfie. Those are for verification only.

Money & disputes

The payment moves last, on purpose

Protected until delivery

The item budget, carrier reward and protection fee are held from the moment a haul is accepted. Nothing is released until the delivery PIN is entered.

Approve price changes

For buy & bring, if the real price is above your budget, the carrier can't proceed until you approve it.

Open a dispute any time

Not delivered, damaged, wrong item, price issue — pick a category and describe it. Funds stay held.

Reviewed by a person

We look at the chat, the pickup and delivery confirmations and any receipts, then release, refund or split.

Full detail lives in our policies. These are prototype terms and will be reviewed by Dutch legal counsel before full launch.

How Buy & Bring purchases are protected

Your money can only buy the right thing

When you ask someone to buy something for you, HaulMate doesn't hand them your money outright. Instead, we issue a single-use purchase card, capped at the exact amount you approved, valid only for a few hours, and restricted to the type of item you requested. Your hauler shows you a photo of the item before buying it — you confirm it's right, then the purchase happens. A receipt is captured automatically and checked against what was authorized. If anything doesn't match, it's flagged for review before the haul is marked complete.

Note: HaulMate is currently a prototype. This flow is fully built and tested end-to-end, but real transactions run on a simulated payment layer until our licensed payment and card-issuing integrations go live.
